30 Mile Time Trial

Sunday morning was again cold and dull with the wind from the North East. Course consisted of a start at Tabor Chapel to the top of Corbiere, then to Gorey via St Aubin’s turning at Gorey with the finish at St Aubin’s. Wally Rowe won the senior event at nearly 24 mph from Edward Le Huquet by nearly two minutes. This rider with Donald Ecobichon and Torty Hubert are placing consistently nearer to Rowe than previously. Donald Ecobichon won the junior event and improved upon the record held by Hubert since 1952 by a large margin of five minutes 26 seconds. Club captain Bill Aubert “who has held some of the first club records is competing regularly after a number of years absence from time trialing and should shock some of the younger riders when he returns to form. Peter Le Gallais won the first handicap prize beating Brian Coutanche by as little as 12 seconds. Graeme Audoire was unlucky and punctured at four miles and retired. Worthy of praise are G van Dam (junior) M.Sallai and H.Machon; though little mentioned they are competing in their first season and are doing well.
