Marathon Cycle Event
Don Ecobichon covers over 225.5 miles in 12 hours
The Caesarean Cycling Club’s annual 12 hour time trial was run yesterday with a 6 a.m start. There were eight riders but only five faced the starter on schedule. G Clarke, who arrived late, lost 45 minutes before joining this pedalling marathon.
TOUGH GOING
The pattern of the event took shape early on, R Liot retired at 30 miles due mainly to lack of training, next S Perchard pulled at 100 miles leaving D Ecobichon with a fairly comfortable lead. Then at 140 miles a tired and disappointed G Clarke retired after a spill.
At checkpoints it seemed obvious that D Ecobichon would win but the question was would D.Cook beat the veteran W Aubert into second place.
Scores of spectators lined the road at the finish to cheer the riders on their return at 6p.m from various parts of the course. Club president Mr F Machon congratulated the finishers and then read the results which are subject to official confirmation.
