There were 11 starters from Millbrook at 7am on Sunday morning. The conditions were ideal apart from the road surface which caused a number of riders slight mishaps. Wally Rowe starting last (Number 14) went through the field to win the event by nearly eight minutes and also improving upon his own record (1951) by over 1 1/2 minutes with an average speed of 22.62 mph. Finishing second was Torty Hubert with an average speed of 21.72 m.p.h a personal best. Improving his position to fourth Jimmy Wardle also collected the handicap prize. Peter Le Gallis was unfortunate, as was Stan Perchard who both sustaining punctures.
