Only a film in technicolour could adequately convey the brilliant scene near La Hougue Bie at 8am on Sunday morning for the mass start race over the Hougue Bie -Faldouet- Five Oaks circuit. Bright early morning sunshine poured down from from a lovely clear blue sky making the surrounding countryside look very beautiful. The twelve riders all wore muliticoloured racing shirts and the sight of these cyclists racing at speed wheel to wheel in a mass start is something that never fails to thrill onlookers. The nine senior riders did ten laps a total distance of 46 miles, they split into 3 main groups after the start and remained more or less in that order until the last lap when all of the competitors put every remaining ounce of energy into a great final effort.
