30 Mile Round Island Time Trial

At the weekend the Caesarean Cycling Club held a 30 mile reverse round the island time trial starting from Millbrook at 8 am and travelling in a clockwise direction.

Competition between the fastest six riders at present is very keen. The veteran of the flying six is W.Rowe who is staging a comeback and is a danger to all the top riders.

 

Round Island Event

At 8 am yesterday the first of 17 riders was pushed off for the start of the mornings event, a round the island time trial starting from the Esplanade. The riders then raced at minute intervals along the Gorey Coast Road, up Gorey hill, past the church of Saint Martin’s, Trinity, Saint Johns Saint Mary along the 5 mile road to finish at Coronation Park Millbrook a distance of 30 miles.

Don Ecobichon rode very fast to record a time of one hour 19 minutes and 57 seconds beating Doug Lidster in second place by half a minute.

Ruby Grant and Jimmy Tanswell retired at five and fifthteen miles respectively, the former suffering from a common cold and Tanswell from a lack of training miles.

The two handicap prizes for this event were awarded to A. Richardson and W.Rowe.
