Starting the 1958 season one week earlier than usual in order to fit in the crowded programme the Caesarean Cycling Club held its first road event on Sunday 23rd February, in extremely bad weather conditions. The 10-mile low gear time trial course starting at St. Nicholas's Church and using the the Eastern Coast Road provided little shelter to the officials who withstood the driving rain to start the five riders who competed. It is indicative of the weather that there were ten non-starters.
