Attempts to qualify for Games
Cyclists Ten Mile Event
Striving to break 23 minutes for the 10 miles from Grande Charriere to Grouville and back and so qualifying to be considered for selection in the Jersey team at the Empire Games in November, five of the eight riders of the Caesarean Cycling Club competing yesterday morning were within 42 seconds of achieving the target.
The pace set by the faster men was that once too much for the three weaker rides, A. Richardson, Jimmy Tanswell And G.Clarke. They had been dropped in the first quarter mile and then stood no chance of catching the main bunch, who working well together kept up an average of just over 25 mph a speed which was just not good enough to get them back within a 23 minutes.
Perhaps the most notable performance was that of junior K.de la Haye who was beaten into second place by club champion Don Ecobichon in the final sprint.
