First 25 mile medium gear time trial of the season set out from Five oaks with 16 riders. As the riders came into the finish, it was quite noticeable that there was a more than usual interest being taken in the times, for in the back of each riders mind was the thought of the forthcoming Empire Games and his prospects of selection. As the result of the show Donald Ecobichon maintained his form to lead the field, but undoubtedly the honours of this event go to young Alan de Gruchy who with a time of 1 hour 10 mins 34 sec was the third fastest rider. Alan who joined the club at the beginning of last season and won the Junior Best All Rounder Trophy will still qualify for junior competition in the 1959 season.
