Conditions were variable for Sunday’s Caesarean Cycling Club competition, the 25 mile event of the season. There was quite a lot of wind and this, combined with greasy road, made it necessary to that the course with a great deal of respect. The only rider however, to part company with his machine was Martin Salsac Jnr., but he was only grazed and continued the race to finish 3rd fastest overall.
Tony Cornic punctured at Hautes Croix at the outward section and having no spare, had to retire. Brian Lidster was in fine fettle and although he also found the going a trifle hard, recorded a time of 1:00:54, 2 minutes slower than his record time of a few weeks ago.
Bill Corden with an 11 minute allowance, won the handicap award.
Now that the season has nearly ended, riders are reminded to return their ‘silverware’ as soon as possible to Mr. Machon so that the necessary engraving can be carried out in time for the annual dinner and prize-giving. This event will be held on November 24th.
The course used was from Five Oaks, across the Northern perished to Bay Tabarin, where Gordon Wright and his daughter sent the riders back on the return leg. Stan perched as time keeper, sent riders off at minute intervals and Mr. Machon helped out by timing them in. Collen Ecobichon acted as recorded. A pleasant surprise, was the attendance at the event of Cyril Vallais.
The course was well marshalled – quote necessary due to the start being at 9am.
Refreshments after the event, we are usual, provided but he ladies. There is only one more event on the calendar, the Boulay Bay Hill Climb next Sunday. Riders to meet for the start at 9am.
