Jersey Cyclist Triumphs in Guernsey Race

SETS NEW RECORD FOR COURSE

Yesterday was a day of triumph for one of Jerseys star cyclists, 17-year-old Doug Lidster when he won the L.R Robinson Cup for the island of Guernsey is 25 mile Road race.for the island of Guernsey is 25 mile Road race.

At the same time, Lidster set a new course record with a time of one hour, one minute, 50 seconds, compared with the previous best of one hour, three minutes, and 33 seconds by a Guernseyman and an all comers course record of 1 hour, 2 minutes and 50 seconds.

He received his trophy from Mr F.Machon, wife of the President of the Jersey Caesarean Cycling Club, who with her husband had travelled to Guernsey especially for the race.

There was a total field of 17 starters including 11 Jersey riders and the race was held under the supervision of the President of the Island of Guernsey Cycling Club Mr Nigel Archer.

In winning Lidster was given a very close run for it by Guernseys most promising young rider, Terry Le Pelley, who gained second place in the overall reckoning and first in the juniors with a new junior all comers and senior club record for the course of one hour two minutes 12 seconds.
