Ten Mile Mass Start Event

The Caesarean Cycling Club held is first mass start of the1962 season on 22nd of April, starting from St.Nicolas Church, Greve d’Azrtte, continuing along the East Coast Road to the turn which was at the Links Hotel and back to the finish near St.Nicholas Church. As well as being the first mass start it was also the first of the races in which riders could qualify for a place the team which it is hoped will go to Perth for the Empire Games later this year.

The pace of the race was slow as the winners time indicates, the main reason being that only threes riders, Don Ecobichon, Doug Lidster and junior rider K. de la Haye out of the bunch of eight were willing to attack in a aggressive mood. It was these 3 who forced the only effective break at the half way stage. They soon opened up a 50 yard gap which only D Le Brocq of the other five riders could close.

FASTEST FINISHER

These four riders finished 32 seconds in front of the chasing bunch, D.Ecobichon proving that he is still the fastest finisher by crossing the line in front of D Le Brocq with D.Lidster in third and K.de la Haye in forth.

The second bunch sprint went too M.Machon from J.Tanswell and L.Grant. The only other rider to finish the course was R.Dupre a junior who at his first attempt at mass-start riding did well to finish only 2 mins, 3 secs behind the winner. J.Callec the only other starter failed to finish the race puncturing soon after the start.
